They create webpages that use all the tricks of the trade that search engines disapprove of, from cloaking to hiding keywords in noframes / css tags, and then they show up at the top of many popular keyword searches.

I know, i know all the search engine optimisation fellas and ladies out there will say those guys never succeed in the long term. But what about the fact that they DO succeed in the short term, and if there's a constant stream of such sites succeeding in the short term, genuine, search engine optimisation law abiding sites will never make it to the top ten???

My gripe is not so much with the law breakers. Hell... defeating the system is always fun at some times .... admit it! My gripe lies with the system itself. Why does it have loopholes that can be exploited?

Before this turns into a rant about the evils of search engine optimisation and search engines themselves, let me say this: good results do happen:

I was searching for a GP close to where I live. I typed in "find nearest GP" in Google and the #1 result that popped up was the NHS GP locator site. Now this surely couldn't be because the NHS had done something right - that is just NOT possible. Surely Google had gotten their search indexing & algorithm right!

Next rant: You'll just have to wait to see it, won't you (hahaha!)
